"This new name will only be uttered by God the Father and
the Lord Jesus when they address you privately."
When the trials of our existence in this life is over and we who are to be saved are found in heaven hearing God the Father say, "Behold, I make all things new" (Revelation 21:5), something very special will be revealed. At the end of all things we know, and at the beginning of our eternity in heaven, our Lord Jesus says He will reveal something very special to us about Himself.
"He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name." Revelation 3:12 (NKJV)
The Lord Jesus says, "And I will write on him My new name." At first when Christ appears, He will appear with a name written on Him that no one knows. (Revelation 19:12) But when the battles in the end are done, and we are standing in the presence of God and our Lord Jesus in bright white robes (Revelation 7:9,13-14) and crowns on our heads (Revelation 2:10; 3:11), our Lord Jesus will reveal His precious NEW name. All who endure to the end will then know it.
Today we know the name of God our Father as "YHWH" (pronounced Yah-way), first used in Genesis 2:4 ("the LORD" = "YHWH"), later spelled 'Yahweh". Jesus' Hebrew name was documented first as "Yeshua" (pronounced Eee-yeh-shoo-wah), when translated to English becomes "Joshua". The Greek version came later. Jesus' Greek name was documented as "Iesous" (pronounced Eee-yay-soo), when translated to English becomes "Jesus". As for the Old Testament and it referring to both God the Father and our Lord Jesus, when you see the word LORD in all caps, it refers to God the Father and His holy name "YHWH". When you see the word "Lord" with only the "L" capitalized, it refers to the Hebrew word "Adonai" (pronounced ah-doh-noi) meaning "Lord" or "Master". Both can be found in the following verse where we hear God the Father revealing to our Lord Jesus what He intends to do for Him:
Psalm 110:1 (NKJV)
"The LORD said to my Lord, 'Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.'"
-or-
"[YHWH] said to my [Adonai], 'Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool."
Aside from the fact we will learn of Jesus' new name, if that wasn't powerful enough, what is the significance? The significance is the promise our Lord Jesus makes about YOU. Listen to what He promises to those who overcome this life:
"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it." Revelation 2:17 (NKJV)
In addition to a crown and white robe, YOU will also receive a NEW NAME. The unique difference, however, is that our Lord Jesus says that NO ONE will know this new name except you. This new name will only be uttered by God the Father and the Lord Jesus when they address you privately. NO ONE will be allowed to know or hear your new name spoken except you and Them.
Imagine a conversation where God the Father and the Lord Jesus are speaking to you privately, focused entirely on YOU and referring to you with a name no one else knows. What would that feel like? Openly, they will call you by your name you have today, but in private, refer to you by your ETERNAL new name. Your new name will remain yours and Their secret for all eternity making each private conversation you have with them an eternal treasure and honor.
God bless you in Christ Jesus the Lord, always.
