Inspiration of the Day - Gospel of Christ Defined

"Being book smart about the Bible does you absolutely no good if you do not have a one-on-one relationship with the One who died for you on the cross."

How do you define the phrase, “Gospel of Christ”?

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek." Romans 1:16 NKJV

To keep it as simple as possible, the Gospel of Christ is God commanding His Son to come to Earth, die for the sins of all those in the world who would accept and believe in Him -- past, present, and future, in order to allow them to be with Him in heaven forever.

A deeper view of that simple biblical statement would be:

  • The Word of God became flesh, through the virgin birth of Mary in Bethlehem. (John 1:1-3; John 1:14; Matthew 1:18)

  • The baby grew to become a man, fulfilling all the promises of the Old Testament as the coming Messiah, Savior and King. (Luke 2:51-52; Matthew 5:17)

  • This Man, our Lord Jesus, was born to die for us and act as the one and only sacrifice pleasing to God for the cleansing of our sins. No other animal sacrifice from Jesus' death onward would ever be accepted by God again. (Hebrews 10:1-18)

  • Jesus was crucified on the cross, died, was buried, and on the third day...rose from the grave alive (Matthew 28:1-4) fulfilling the prophecy told about Him (Psalm 16:10; Psalm 110:1).

  • The prophecy in Psalms where God the Father tells Jesus to "sit at my right hand" would come after Jesus presented Himself to God the Father in Heaven. (Revelation 5:6-7)

  • After His resurrection and after He presented Himself to God the Father in Heaven (John 20:17), the Lord Jesus presented Himself to many here on Earth. The Lord Jesus had people touch Him, even put their fingers in the holes made to His body by the cross. (1 Corinthians 15:3-8;Luke 24:39)

From the basics of being baptized with water (Acts 10:47), to studying the Word of God (Psalms 119:147-148), to participating in the Lord's Supper regularly (1 Corinthians 11:24-25), our calling as Christians is this…to spread the Good News of God's Love and Mercy towards all those who believe. To educate those willing to listen to the Gospel of Christ. That it represents the forgiveness of sins committed by us by Jesus paying the ultimate price on the cross on our behalf. This wonderful substitution, this Good News, is to be spread all over the world by all those who believe.

“I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭8:17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

-and-

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4:24 NKJV

Having read what the Gospel of Christ is and what it represents, what does it personally mean to you? How important is it to you? It is not enough to know it intellectually. Being book smart about the Bible does you absolutely no good if you do not have a one-on-one relationship with the One who died for you on the cross. (1 Corinthians 13:2) The Gospel of Christ becomes more than words in a book when you encounter God and Christ spiritually. Because meeting God can never be accomplished in the flesh. (Romans 8:7; Galatians 3:3)

God gave all humanity a gift in Jesus Christ His Son, the Word (John 1:1-3; John 1:14). To the Jews first, then to non-Jews. Don’t be afraid when you have an opportunity to share the gospel. The Gospel of Christ is a message that will never go away, can never be silenced, and will live forever (Matthew 24:35).

God bless you in Christ Jesus the Lord, always.
