Inspiration of the Day - A Crown for a Crown

"Through the torture, pain and suffering His Son Jesus our Lord endured, the transfer of currency needed for us to receive a crown on our heads was paid."

A baby laid in a manger of hay where animals eat, born a King. (Luke 2:7; Matthew 2:1-2) A carpenter who shapes wood, to One who shapes the soul. (Mark 6:3; Jeremiah 17:10) A lamb led to the slaughter, transformed into a triumphant Lion. (Acts 8:32; Revelations 5:5) The Word of God who holds all things together -- before, during, and even now, became a Man within Himself coming to His own…a walking, living, and breathing representation of the very utterance of God. (John 1:1-3, 10, 14; Acts 17:28; Colossians 1:15-17) Such profound poetry, in and of itself, if it weren't based on the real life of our Lord Jesus Christ.

"When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!'" Matthew 27:29 (NKJV)

To transform something that happened in real life so horrific into something we can boast about by changing the visual impact of something you can scarcely imagine into something so beautiful and unfathomable goes beyond the poetic. Imagine a crown of thorns, puncturing the skin on the forehead of our Savior, blood pouring out the holes and gashes. Having a painful device put on your head while being mocked, "Here you go King Jesus!", while those who tortured Him laughed.

Why would God the Father, Love Himself (1 John 4:8), write into His Son's story here on earth such an awful instrument to be placed on His head? We find that God uses transformational symbolism like this throughout scripture -- "beauty for ashes", "rest for adversity", "oil of joy for mourning". (Isaiah 61:3; Psalm 94:13) Imagine now our God and Father using His Son's "crown of thorns" transforming it into a crown of "glory and honor" that He would give us, you and I, to wear in His very presence. (2 Timothy 4:8; Revelation 2:10) Through the torture, pain and suffering His Son Jesus our Lord endured, the transfer of currency needed for us to receive a crown on our heads was paid. (1 John 4:10) Paid in full for "[insert your name here]".

"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone." Hebrews 2:9 (NKJV)

Christ walked into heaven after His resurrection and received His reward of glory and honor, as well as His position at God the Father's right hand. (Psalm 110:1; Acts 7:56; Revelations 5:4-7) Through faith in Christ, if we walk spiritually in the presence of God even now on Earth, we also wear a crown on our heads even today. (John 3:6,8; 2 Corinthians 5:20) Not of thorns, but of a material that is eternal made of "glory and honor". It is a crown that cannot be taken away from you, nor broken, shining brighter than the sun. (Romans 8:38-39) For it shines with the very light that comes from the face of Christ.

God bless you in Christ Jesus the Lord, always.
