Inspiration of the Day - Prayer in the Presence of God

"God the Father longs for you, and through your prayer, cherishes it

when you long to approach Him physically and spiritually in return."

As our faith grows through spiritual trials and hardships (2 Corinthians 4:16), biblical study and prayer, we also grow in our understanding of the profound holiness of God our Father, and His Son Jesus Christ our Lord. (Ecclesiastes 1:18) The more we come to this realization, the more we realize our own frailty, flaws and sinfulness. After a while, we may begin to feel insecure when we come to God in prayer. King David sure felt that way.

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.” ‭‭Psalm ‭19:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Do you sense his insecurity? The word "let" has such a deep meaning. He wrote such beautiful words and had such a passion for God. Yet, if you study the Psalms, the underlying themes were always feelings of unworthiness, fear and insecurity, followed by reflection, praise and worship. He continuously reaches out for God’s mercy and power, for His strength and wisdom, as well as His immeasurable love and unfathomable favor.

God made King David an example in so many ways. Especially in showing how a person should approach Him in prayer. God always kept King David broken and humbled. (Psalm 71:20) Yet, King David was never deterred in approaching God even though he knew how deep his sinfulness went. It drove him to worship God even more.

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

So taking King David as an example, combining it with what we know of our Lord Jesus, here is some guidance on opening your prayer:

  1. Introduce yourself to the Door you have to go through to get to God the Father. Jesus Christ said He is that Door. (John 10:9) Honor Him and who He is to God the Father. (Matthew 17:5; Psalm 110:1) God made it so that no one can come to Him except through His Son Jesus our Lord. (John 14:6)

  2. Accept the cleansing you receive by the blood Christ spilled on the cross for YOU. (1 John 1:7) As Isaiah had to have a hot coal touch his lips in heaven in order to be allowed in God's presence (Isaiah 6), so you must be cleansed before you are allowed in the presence of God our Father. (Jude 1:24)

  3. Approach God the Father in confidence and boldness in the faith you have in Christ and His sacrifice on the cross. Then ask God the Father for forgiveness of your sins in His Son Jesus' precious name. (Matthew 1:21) He is quick to grant forgiveness, He delights in it. (Hosea 6:6)

Then simply enjoy your fellowship with our Holy God without fear of rejection. (James 4:6) God the Father longs for you, and through your prayer, cherishes it when you long to approach Him physically and spiritually in return. (Psalm 27:4; Psalm 84:2) Of course, opening in prayer like this each time will take time to develop. But after a while, you'll feel the difference because of God's faithfulness in rewarding those who humbly seek Him, AND approach Him, with all their heart. (Jeremiah 29:13; James 4:6)

God bless you in Christ Jesus the Lord, always.
